Your 2024 Strategic Roadmap to Growth and Success

“Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.” — Fitzhugh Dodson

Have you ever taken a vacation without first planning where your destination will be?

Imagine you just pick a direction and GO.  You find yourself in Paris, France.  Exciting right?  Not unless you actually care about seeing Paris, France.  It’s not a place you were ever really passionate about seeing, but since you’re there, you pump yourself up to visit the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum and the Notre-Dame Cathedral… but you can’t.  You spent too much time and money travelling blissfully in the moment and now you need everything that’s left to get home.  You’re disappointed because you didn’t see any big attractions, you didn’t get to experience the culture, and you have nothing to show for any of it.

With an end game in mind, it makes it possible to plan and budget your time, energy, and money to have meaningful, memorable experiences that are aligned with the things that matter.

In business, setting annual goals is fundamental to your growth and success.  With an end goal in mind and some specific measures in place, you can plan and implement your strategic roadmap to growth and success.

One of those annual strategic goals will always be marketing.  But do you break out specific goals for your digital marketing strategy?

We love SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals.  They help us be precise about what we want to achieve and provide clarity around the metrics and results we are aiming for.  With the new year around the corner, we thought we’d share 10 of the most common SMART goals we see used with social media goals that could help you plan for your business.

Pick only the top goals that align with your unique business objectives and overall strategy.  In the wise words of Frank Sonnenberg, “If you don’t make things that matter a priority, you’re bound to spend time on things that don’t.”

Remember to stay flexible to adapt goals and budgets based on changes in the market, consumer behavior, or industry trends.  Base your budget allocations on the priority of each goal, its impact on your overall business objectives and be sure there’s a reserve for experimentation and optimization. This could include testing new channels, messages, or creative approaches to discover what works best for your brand and target audience. Finally, evaluate the performance of marketing results against set goals and KPIs regularly and make adjustments necessary to reach your destination.
