I’m the mother of a teenage daughter.  We used to love shopping together.  Now?  Not so much.  When she was younger, it was fun.  She loved almost everything I picked out for her.  Now, the only things she loves are the things she sees on her favorite celebrities and social media.  Why is that?  How is it that an endorsement from someone we know or admire, especially a celebrity or influencer, can have such influential power over our decisions?

People want to align themselves with their role models by sharing similar experiences and interests.  Their endorsement creates a sense of trust and credibility, making them more compelled to engage, and fulfill a psychological need for social validation.

This is good news for you if you aspire to enhance your brand visibility, drive sales and gain valuable insights into your ideal client behaviour and preferences.  By partnering with an influencer, your brand could reach hundreds and thousands of highly targeted audiences through just one post.   Influencers are the marketing campaign of the future and a surefire way to expand your reach.

1.  Tell Your Story.  Influencers build their credibility, audiences and incomes by being authentic.  Trust is fragile and key to an influencer’s success.  Their content and persona needs to align with their real-life personality, beliefs, and values, so they have to resonate with your brand on a genuine level to endorse it.  They will need to see a strategic alignment with your brand to consider working with you.  Tell your story, share your purpose and give them an emotional incentive to advocate for you.

2.  Make a Commitment.  61% of consumers will trust an influencer’s recommendation and for every $1 spent on influencer marketing, you could be making a $5.78 ROI.   Short-term influencer campaigns may generate some buzz and give your brand a quick boost in reach and engagement, but building a long-term relationship with an influencer is mutually beneficial and produces superior results.  When an influencer establishes a relationship with your brand, they develop a deeper connection and can demonstrate their commitment by repeating mentions and recommendations of your brand.

3.  Engage Your Influencer.  When you’ve selected an influencer who you want to work with, involve them in the creative process. Allow them creative freedom to showcase your brand in a way that feels authentic to their audience while aligning with your objectives.  Dedicate time to engage with your influencer's content.  Comment, like, and share new (and existing) posts to show genuine interest in them, recognize their efforts and provide feedback.

Influencer marketing is not just a trend; it's a strategic approach that can revolutionize your brand's visibility and customer engagement, making your mark in the competitive market. So, seize the opportunity, embrace authenticity, multiply your visibility and leverage the engagement and loyalty of an influencer audience.
